Find true flavors of fall at Coastal Alabama Farmers and Fishermens Market

Y’all ready for some fall flavor? It seems everyone gets excited about pumpkin spice, but that’s not the only seasonal flavor to enjoy in autumn.

You’re in for a treat when you discover all the fresh produce and seafood at the Coastal Alabama Farmers and Fishermens Market on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The market, located at 20733 Miflin Road (County Road 20), offers a variety of locally grown veggies such as squash, greens, eggplant, sweet potatoes and more.

You can also find fresh yard eggs; local honey; canned fruits, vegetables and preserves; and even fresh baked goods.

Want some ideas for autumn dishes? Start by toasting acorn squash seeds in the oven and eating them as you would pumpkin seeds.

Try cooking butternut or acorn squash in a soup or serving it over pasta. Check out these recipes for a collection of squash recipes.

Squash can also be great for use in baked goods such as banana nut bread. Speaking of nuts, pick up some pecans to throw in that freshly baked bread. Or just bake a completely decadent pecan pie.

What about that Swiss chard you picked up? It’s delicious when sautéed with Parmesan cheese!

There are tons of ways to prepare sweet potatoes, including roasted with parsnips or coconut-roasted. Check out these sweet potato recipes from Whole Foods Market.

You may come across some pears at the market. Wonderful on their own, they are also delicious in preserves, tarts and salads, or on flat bread.

Don’t hold back! Put your local, fresh purchases to work tempting your taste buds with new and familiar flavors.
