Hundreds of heritage roses, in a rainbow of colors, line the paved Antique Rose Trail in Foley. The trail is just a part of the popular downtown area of the city and one of the stops on our Explore Foley Downtown itinerary.

The itinerary starts in Heritage Park at the Foley Railroad Depot Museum. The museum home was built in 1908 as the Louisville and Nashville railroad station. Just look for the big red caboose on the south side of the park. From there, enjoy a stroll on the Wilbourne Antique Rose Trail. Stop to relax and enjoy the beauty from park benches or a swing under the shade of a gazebo.

For lunch, you’ll love the variety of food choices, with pizza and Jamaican cuisine topping the list. Any time you feel the need for a little pick-me-up, head to one of the coffee shops located downtown.

After lunch, take in a little more history at Holmes Medical Museum, where you will get a glimpse of the way medicine was practiced from 1936 to 1958. We suggest shopping at Jan’s Art Studio and Foley Art Center for local art and one-of-a-kind souvenirs. Orange Blossom Square is just around the corner, boasting 14 stores to meet your every shopping need.

Finish off the day with a sweet treat from Stacey’s Olde Tyme Soda Fountain. Don’t miss their famous key lime milkshake, one of the 100 Dishes to Eat in Alabama Before You Die.

Are you ready to celebrate? OWA is making plans for the area’s biggest and most spectacular fireworks show. The fun starts at 10 a.m., July 4, with family-friendly activities followed by an amazing fireworks show at 8:45 p.m.
